dr. A.D.I. van Asselt
Thea van Asselt started doing research in the field of Health Technology Assessment (HTA) in 1998 at the University Medical Center Groningen, after obtaining an MSc degree in Economics at Groningen University in 1996. From 2000-2014 she worked at the department of Clinical Epidemiology & Medical Technology Assessment (KEMTA) of the Maastricht UMC. Her PhD thesis (2008, Maastricht University) was on the economic aspects of treatment for Borderline Personality Disorder. Since March 2014, she is a health economist at the UMCG (department of Epidemiology) as well as at the University of Groningen (department of Pharmacy, unit PharmacoEpidemiology and PharmacoEconomics). She has many years of experience in performing both trial-based and model-based economic evaluations, covering clinical areas such as mental health and cardiology (heart failure, peripheral arterial disease, atrial fibrillation). During her time in Maastricht, from 2011 onwards, she was a member of the Kleynen Systematic Reviews Evidence Review Group that conducts assessments for the National Institute of Clinical Excellence (NICE) in the UK. At current, she is involved in a European project on a novel biomarker for the prediction of pre-eclampsia and in several other cost-effectiveness studies.
