Zeeheldenbuurt - Living Together, Researching Together

The Zeeheldenbuurt, Badstratenbuurt, and Laanhuizen are three neighborhoods located in the southern part of Groningen. They are dynamic areas, each with their own demographics, challenges, and levels of community engagement. Several major developments are currently taking place in these neighborhoods: the redevelopment of the Niemeijer factory, the new railway zone, and the construction of a bike path to the Suikerunie grounds. In addition, ongoing issues such as studentification and nuisance continue to play a role.

Based on input from the community, we aim to explore how residents view these developments, to what extent they impact social cohesion in the neighborhood, and whether there is a noticeable difference between a neighborhood with an active residents’ organization (Zeeheldenbuurt) and one without (Laanhuizen). In this way, we hope to meaningfully connect residents to both the opportunities and challenges in their neighborhood.
