Dr. Henk Mulder, chair of the Groningen Science Shops announced that during the 8th Living Knowledge conference in Budapest. Researchers, Civil Society Organisations and Science Shops from around the world will visit The Netherlands for the first time for this conference, with the aim of strengthening the relation between scientific research and societal impact.

Living Knowledge network

The Living Knowledge network strives for more societal involvement in academic research. They inspire researchers to do research with and for civilians or civil society organisations, and to share the results of this research with these communities. It aims to get more insight in how academic research works, to create strong relations between the university and the civil society and to strengthen the open debate about science. The Living Knowledge network celebrates their 20th anniversary in 2020.

Science Shops

The UG Science Shops (Dutch: wetenschapswinkels) were one of the founding fathers of the Living Knowledge network since 2000 onwards. They have been involved in the founding of multiple science shops in Europe and the world. The science shop is a part of the university, which connects questions from civil society organisations with research done by students. The Groningen Science Shops are spread across multiple faculties: Bèta, philosophy, public health and medicine, education, language, culture and communication and SME Student Consultancy.
