Lead halide perovskite nanocrystals (LHP NCs) have emerged as outstanding light emitting materials exhibiting luminescence with near unity quantum yield and narrow linewidth that can be tuned across the visible spectrum via facile ion exchange reactions. The talk will discuss recent work on the photophysics and optoelectronic applications of such nanomaterials, with emphasis on the following work of my group:

(i) Optimization of the solid state processing of LHP NCs yields solids that exhibit efficient amplified spontaneous emission in the green and near-infrared with high net modal gain and low threshold, making them attractive for optically pumped solution-processed lasers.

(ii) Transient absorption experiments on FAPbI3 NCs produce spectral and temporal signatures of a long-lived hot carrier population. Intense photoexcitation generates a hot electron–hole gas that influences the energetics and dynamics of the radiative recombination via a competition between the stimulated emission and the emission from non-thermalized carriers.

(iii) Efficient light emitting structures based on LHP NCs can be demonstrated via two routes: (i) By implementing LHP NCs as downconverters of blue-emitting III-Nitride emitters and (ii) By employing electronic-active solids of such NCs in solution-processed electroluminescent devices.

(iv) Encapsulation of LHP NCs into polymer nanofibers yields robust composites exhibiting bright emission, improved air- and water-stability and potential applications in textile-based LED devices.
