A polymer nanocomposite is a multiphase solid material with at least one nanoscale component which have been attracting ever-increasing attention thanks to their unique properties. Graphene is an ideal filler for high-performance multifunctional nanocomposites in light of its superior mechanical, electrical, thermal, and optical properties. However, the 2D nature of graphene usually gives rise to highly anisotropic features, which brings new opportunities to tailor nanocomposites by making full use of its excellent in-plane properties. This seminar discusses the influence of graphene on polymer nanocomposites, emphasizing process production, characterization, and consequently applications including but not limited to electromagnetic shielding, sensors, antibacterial materials, and drug delivery systems. Meanwhile, the impact of interfacial interaction between graphene and polymer on the nanocomposite properties will also be explained.
