Prof.dr. Shirin Faraji

Shirin Faraji was born in Iran (1981). She performed her undergraduate studies in Physical Chemistry at Tehran University of Science and Technology. In 2006, she moved to Heidelberg, Germany to carry out her Ph.D. in Theoretical Chemistry in the group of Prof. Lorenz Cederbaum, supervised by Prof. Horst Köppel. Her Ph.D. was focused on coupled electron-nuclear quantum dynamics. Her doctoral work was recognized by Dr. Sophie Bernthsen Award for an outstanding Ph.D. progress and accomplished with the summa cum laude honor from the University of Heidelberg. Upon completion of her postdoctoral training at the Goethe University Frankfurt in the field of electronic structure theory and hybrid quantum mechanics/molecular mechanics simulations, she was awarded the Elite-Postdoc Program of Baden-Württemberg Foundation in 2011 and started her Habilitation at Physical Chemistry Institute of Heidelberg University. Since 2012, Shirin Faraji is an independent junior research group leader at the Interdisciplinary Center for Scientific Computing of Heidelberg University. In 2014, she also became a visiting scholar at the University of Southern California as a German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) fellow. Shirin Faraji received several prestigious fellowships and awards, among which the German permanent residence permit as a high-qualified scientist in 2012 and Burg Foundation Teaching Award of University of Southern California in 2015 were the most prominent.

Her research focus is on the development of hybrid classical/quantum dynamical methods for studies of light-induced processes and quantum effects in biomolecules and novel materials.

More information on her research focus and group activities will soon appear online at: http://www.rug.nl/research/zernike/theoretical-chemistry/faraji-group/
