Royal Decoration for Katja Loos
On Tuesday 26 April Katja Loos was appointed Knight of the Order of the Netherlands Lion. She received this honour from Mayor K. Schuiling at Groningen City Hall.
The royal decoration is a reward for someone who has done groundbreaking (scientific) work for Dutch society. Katja Loos, described by the University of Groningen as a "green figurehead of polymer chemistry," is engaged in reducing plastic waste through the development of biodegradable or recyclable plastics based on renewable resources instead of fossil fuels.
She also strongly advocates for diversity and is a staunch supporter of programs aiming to increase the representation of women in academic leadership positions.
