Title: Realization of Higher-Form Symmetries in SU(N) Gauge Theory and their Spontaneous Symmetry Breaking
Abstract: This thesis investigates the realization and spontaneous breaking of the 1-form centre symmetry in SU(N) gauge theories, focusing on pure Yang–Mills theory as a model of QCD without quarks. By employing differential forms, the work provides a geometric and topological description of symmetries and confinement. Wilson and Polyakov loops are identified as order parameters diagnosing symmetry breaking and the confinement–deconfinement transition.
