Workshop Data Visualization

When:Th 21-11-2019 09:00 - 13:00
Where:Jantina Tammeszaal, University Library

How can visualization tools and techniques contribute to a better analysis of digital data, as well as improve the communication of your results?

The CDH and CIT-RIS are organizing a workshop on data visualization, and we invite you to attend!

The workshop will begin with a discussion of different types to visualization, tips & tricks, and some common pitfalls. In the second part, you will be able to create your own visualizations in Tableau, an application that works through dragging and dropping, with no coding skills required!

The goals of this workshop are to:

  1. Familiarize yourself with different types of visualization
  2. Learn the steps in preparing a dataset towards visualization
  3. Gain hands-on experience with visualization tools
  4. Gain an understanding of common visualization pitfalls
  5. Meet peers with similar interests, and data scientists specialized in visualization

The registration deadline is 21 October. Space is limited, and registration will be on a first-come-first-serve basis.

Please bring your own laptop to the workshop! If you do not have one but would like to take part, please indicate this in the form.

Further, if you would like to share a dataset for the workshop as an example and for practicals, please send us your dataset (including main purpose or questions to be answered using visualization techniques) before 14 October. The data scientists will assess the possibilities to answer such questions via visualization. Please, be aware that the resulting visualizations will be publicly available in a Tableau repository.

This workshop is led by Nicoletta Giudice and Venus Soancatl Aguilar. We hope to see you there!
