Promolokaal

Important: Due to budget cuts in higher education, the NWO Teacher Promotion Grant - the grant that Promolokaal is particularly focused on - will be disappearing. The final round of applications will be held in the fall of 2026 (click here for more information).

Because experience shows that it takes over a year and a half to go from initial contact to a good research proposal for the Teacher Promotion Grant, we will not hold another Promolokaal information session in the fall of 2025. Teachers interested in doctoral research who are already in contact with potential mentors can discuss with them the feasibility of participating in one of the final rounds of teacher promotion grants.

Of course, if you are not yet in contact with colleagues but have ambitions to pursue a PhD, you can still contact us. We can point you, for example, to vacancies for junior researchers or PhD positions with one of our colleagues.

Wanted: Curious teachers (PO/SPO/SO/VO/SVO/MBO/HBO) from the North of the country with interest in doctoral research!

Are you in the classroom and would you like to pursue a doctoral degree? Would you like to know about the possibilities of conducting an educational science doctoral research? Would you like to get in touch with possible supervisors? Then sign up now at Promolokaal!

The Ministry of Education, Culture and Science provides annual grants that allow teachers to conduct doctoral research. With these grants, teachers get the chance to develop further, an impulse can be given to the educational quality of their own school and the connection between research and practice is strengthened.

The GION Education/Research Department of the University of Groningen is particularly supportive of this initiative and would like to support interested candidates in applying for a Teacher Promotion Scholarship and has therefore set up Promolokaal. With Promolokaal we bring teachers interested in doctoral research in contact with scientific researchers, their areas of expertise and possible research projects suitable for doctoral research by teachers. On this page you can take a look at the research projects and profiles of our colleagues.

It is also possible to develop your own research proposal that matches the expertise and interests of our one of our researchers.

For substantive questions about Promolokaal, please contact Marjolein Deunk (m.i.deunk rug.nl) or Nienke Renting (n.renting rug.nl).
