Josje van der Linden, PhD
UNESCO Chair holder Lifelong Learning Youth and Work at Gulu University, Uganda/Groningen University, the Netherlands. Josje’s research interests encompass the area of lifelong learning, vocational education, and workplace learning for adults and youth in the Netherlands and in Africa with special attention to youth, education, and work in (post-)conflict areas. The team in Groningen includes Professor Dr. Jacques Zeelen, Dr. Marco Mazereeuw and invaluable volunteers such as Maaike van der Sluijs and Claudia Visser.

Robert Jjuuko, PhD
UNESCO Co-chair holder Lifelong Learning Youth and Work at Gulu University, lecturer at ODELL department, Gulu University. Dr Robert Jjuuko is a Ugandan development consultant, educationist and researcher on youth education-work transition, adult education policy & financing, and vocational education & training. Robert has more than 18 years of experience of theory and practice with a good contextual understanding of issues and trends in the field of education and development in sub-Saharan Africa. He is a passionate scholar of agency in the context of youth transition, transformative education and social change.
Youth Education and Work (YEW) Network
YEW is a loosely tied network. Apart from Gulu University and the University of Groningen, it encompasses scholars from the Ugandan universities Makerere University, Ugandan Martyrs University, Kyambogo University, African Rural University and also scholars from UK, Israel, South Africa, Tanzania, Sudan and Mozambique. On a regular basis, there are staff exchange visits to strengthen the cooperation in research and teaching and prepare joint proposals.
Traineeship Opportunities
The chair offers several opportunities for traineeships, among which: preparing, implementing and evaluating a summer school that is taking place in Uganda, preparing publications, supporting a professional development programme for Ugandan students to bridge the transition from education to work. Also, a trainee can support the organisation of activities in Groningen, such as a one day symposium promoting the Sustainable Development Goals in the University of Groningen.
