Peroxisomal membrane contact sites

For long organelles have been thought to function in relative isolation. However, we now know that all organelles have physical and functional interactions with other organelles, which is essential for the proper functioning of the cell. The physical interactions involve membrane contact sites (MCS), regions where two membrane are very closely associated. To form MCSs specific tethering proteins are required. We recently made an inventory of the MCSs between peroxisomes and other cell organelles (plasma membrane, vacuole, ER, mitochondria). In this project, we will identify novel tethering proteins and study their function.
