Sorting of peroxisomal membrane proteins

In this project we aim to understand how newly synthesized peroxisomal membrane proteins (PMPs) reach the peroxisomal membrane upon synthesis in the cytosol. This process is currently heavily debated. In one model PMPs directly sort to the peroxisomal membrane whereas in another model they first insert into the endoplasmic reticulum membrane from where they reach peroxisomes via vesicle transport. In this project we study both proposed pathways.
