Research Kapteyn Institute Kapteyn Mobile Planetarium

More information

Educational program

Using a digital projection on an inflatable dome, we are going to explore the beautiful night sky with all its planets, stars and galaxies. Modern astronomical observation images and video material are used. More information about teaching material can be found under Teaching Material.

Space requirements and capacity

The planetarium must be placed indoors in a quiet space of at least 7x7 meters and 3.5 meters high, with a power point within 20 meters. For example, it is ideal to arrange a gym or playroom.

The capacity of the mobile planetarium is limited. At the same time, a maximum of 25 adults or 30 children accompanied by a teacher can attend a presentation inside the inflatable dome.

The day program

If preffered, you can put together a suitable program for the day yourself. Take into account that during one day about six performances can be given. The possible start time of the first presentation depends on your location.

Presentations for the primary school (group 1-4, age 4-8) take 20-30 minutes. Presentations for primary school (group 5-8, age 8-12), secondary schools and general public take 30-45 minutes. In any case it is important to schedule 10 minutes of changeover time between the presentations.

Reservations

Primary schools can book the planetarium for € 435 per day including VAT. A rate of € 490 per day including VAT applies to secondary education. The planetarium is also available for events outside of education. This price is on request.
