The effect of environmental processes on the evolution of dwarf galaxies

Summary of her thesis:
This thesis explores how environment shapes the properties and evolution of dwarf galaxies, from dense cluster cores to intermediate-density groups and the large-scale cosmic web. In the Fornax cluster, I use the Fornax Deep Survey to show that dwarf galaxies in the outer cluster regions have higher asymmetry, likely linked to ram-pressure stripping, while enhanced asymmetries in the very central regions are consistent with tidal effects. In the Fornax-Eridanus supercluster, DES-based dwarf samples show that red dwarfs are preferentially located in groups and near the spine of the Fornax Wall, while blue dwarfs are more common in the field; larger red dwarfs are also preferentially found in groups, consistent with environmental pre-processing. In the Dorado group, Euclid imaging reveals a smoother and weaker environmental signature than in the Fornax cluster, suggesting that ram-pressure stripping is less efficient in groups and that dwarf galaxies can retain residual gas and sustain longer-lived asymmetric structures.
