Else Starkenburg new member Young Academy Groningen 2022

20 October 2022

At the inauguration ceremony on 27 September 2022 the Young Academy Groningen welcomed eight new members, including prof. dr. Else Starkenburg of the Kapteyn Astronomical Institute.

As a ‘Milky Way Archaeologist’, Else Starkenburg studies the early life of our galaxy by examining the oldest generations of stars. She founded the Pristine Survey, an international team that explores the oldest stars and structures in the Milky Way. She is also a leader when it comes to using new instruments that streamline our capacity to learn much more about millions of stars in the Milky Way.

In March this year Else Starkeburg was also inducted as a member of De Jonge Akademie 2022.
