UPDATE: The next SUNday of the Blaauw Observatory is on June 21, International SUNday. At the same time Infoversum celebrates its first anniversary with special full dome shows! This spring, the Blaauw Observatory will organize special Sunday afternoons to observe the Sun in cooperation with the Infoversum, SRON Netherlands Institute for Space Research and the Groningen Association for Meteorology and Astronomy (GVWS). When the weather permits, visitors can observe the Sun with solar telescopes and join in various activities to learn more about our own star. These SUNdays take place at the Infoversum on Sundays from April 26 to June 21, 2015. The series is concluded on the last Sunday with a special event for International Sunday.

Program

Of course we need the Sun on a SUNday. The Sundays from April 26 to June 14 are therefore flexible SUNdays , dependent on the weather. Two days before each Sunday we will decide whether to proceed, based on the weather forecast. We keep you informed via the website, Facebook, Twitter and our newsletter.

When the SUNday proceeds, we invite you to come and see our own star in detail through several telescopes at the Infoversum (i.a. of GVWS and ASTRON). You may for example see beautiful sunspots and solar flares. There will also be eclipse glasses for sale to safely look directly at the Sun. Astronomers from the Kapteyn Institute, the astronomy department of the University of Groningen, give additional presentations about the Sun. For children there is also a special children's program.

On Sunday, June 21, we conclude the series of SUNdays and celebrate the longest day of the year and start of the summer with International SUNday . In addition to the above regular SUNday program there will be children's lectures in the Your Energy of Tomorrow truck and SRON Netherlands Institute for Space Research and Science LinX will perform solar experiments. In the 20 meter dome of the Infoversum there are also special full dome shows about the Sun (Dutch: 13:00, 13:30, 14:00, 14:30, 15:00 and English: 15:30, 16:00). To celebrate Infoversum's first anniversary, these cost only €1,- p.p. Tickets can only be bought on the day itself with cash. For the full program, see www.rug.nl/sterrenwacht.
