The Groningen Center of Expertise for Language and Communication Disorders (GELC) aims to focus the knowledge in the area of language and communication disorder that is present at the University of Groningen. The GELC wants to utilize this knowledge in order to optimize research in this area. The GELC is in the first place a research center offering a platform for researchers of the involved faculties: the Faculty of Arts, the Faculty of Social and Behavioral Sciences and the Medical Faculty/UMCG. In the course of that it is the plan to create a center for experimental diagnostics and treatment.

The GELC offers a platform for researchers, PhD candidates, students and interns of the involved faculties. Research should be focused on children or adults with language and communication deficits. By establishing a center like this, research can be carried out that has not been possible until now at the University of Groningen. At the moment, several research projects are in preparation.
