About us Faculty of Science and Engineering Our Research GRIP Organisation

Organisation

GRIP is a research institute within the Faculty of Science and Engineering (FSE). At present GRIP encompasses eight research groups. Each group has between two and seven scientific staff members and is headed by a full professor (chairperson). The scientific director of GRIP bears final responsibility for the science conducted within GRIP, the selection of personnel, and the allocation of funds and is accountable to the Board of the FSE. A board of three GRIP professors advises the director and executive staff.

GRIP has a strategic position between the basic disciplines in the FSE and the (pre)clinical disciplines in the Faculty of Medical Sciences/University Medical Center Groningen (FMS/UMCG). This position has fostered translational research and has opened new directions for multidisciplinary collaborations.

1. The research of GRIP is embedded in the PRECISION: Personalized medicine Research Institute Groningen (PRECISION) together with UMCG units focusing on drug and drug-oriented research.

2. GRIP researchers actively participate in three out of four FSE research themes: Molecular Life and Health , Advanced Materials and Data Science and Systems Complexity .
