Kort buitenland bezoek stipends

'Kort buitenland bezoek' stipends are intended to facilitate short visits to foreign research institutes with a maximum of 7 days. The aim of the short visit must be the arrangement of a longer research visit abroad (buitenlandstage, typically 6 months) during the (D)MD/PhD programme.

The stipend, with a maximum of €1.000,- for EU or UK visits, or €1.500,- for other countries, can be used to cover travel and housing expenses. The stipend is not intended for costs related to conference visits, workshops or courses. Financial compensation for the latter might be available via other GSMS funding.

How to apply

Applications for a 'Kort buitenland bezoek' stipend can be submitted year-round by recently awarded or appointed (D)MD/PhD students using the application form. Applications must be logically connected to the PhD research project. In the application, it must be made clear how the short research visit connects to previous research activities. It must also be clear how the short visit will contribute to the arrangement of a longer research visit abroad, as well as how the research visit abroad contributes and adds to the PhD research. In addition, it must be discussed why this particular foreign research institute is selected.

The application form must be supplemented with a letter of recommendation from your supervisors, as well as a letter of acceptance from the foreign research institute.

The decision will be communicated via email within 6 weeks after submission. If the stipend is granted, half of the requested amount will be made available to the applicant before the visit. Based on actual invoices and a satisfactory final report, the remainder of the costs will be reimbursed. A final report must be submitted to the GSMS within 4 weeks following the short stay abroad.
