How to apply?
The application process is done online. You start your application by applying in Studielink for the programme master Legal Research.
Please read the instructions for applying carefully; the instructions differ depending on the educational background you are applying with. Your degree is the determining factor in what you should and should not do and/or send when applying for one of our LLM programmes. Therefore we have provided the information in two parts:
-
applicants with a non-Dutch qualification (degree) deadline 1 April, see below
-
applicants with a Dutch qualification (degree) deadline 1 May
Application procedure for students with Dutch qualifications:
Apply for the research master's programme before 1 May by using the apply button below.
The Admissions and Selection Committee for the Research Master's programme will determine eligibility for admission based on the uploaded documents. All applicants will receive a written assignment asking them to give a brief reasoned opinion on a piece recently published in a newspaper or magazine. This written assignment supports the submitted documents demonstrating aptitude and talent for the programme.
If you have any questions, please contact Marjolijn Both: l.both rug.nl
Application procedure for students with non-Dutch qualifications:
Step 1: Studielink
You can apply for the Research Master's programme through Studielink before April 1. Please follow the instructions carefully. Studielink is the central registration platform for higher education in the Netherlands
-
Go to www.studielink.nl and log in.
-
select ‘master Rechtswetenschappelijk Onderzoek (Legal Research)’.
Step 2: Provide information
You will receive an email from the Admissions office. Please follow the procedure as specified in that email.
Please note that for the admissions round, all applicants with non-Dutch qualifications will have to pay an application fee of €100. For more specific details about the application fee, please visit this link. Application files/documents will only begin being reviewed after the application fee has been received.
If applicants do not receive any notifications or have questions about their application, please contact the Admissions Office through this form, as something might have gone wrong.
The procedure is slightly complicated because of our obligation to use Studielink. You can find instructions and more information on the exact application procedure here. You can also find a PDF application guide here.
Step 3: Selection Procedure
As part of the admission process, a written assignment must be completed. You will receive this via mail from the Graduate School of Law after the first selection. You have one week to turn in your assignment after it is sent.
The Admissions Board will consider whether you are qualified to be admitted to the Research Master’s programme. A personal (online) interview to provide additional information about your motives and aspirations to enter the programme could be part of the procedure.
Step 4: Admission
We endeavour to send the Admissions Board's decision within six weeks of your application being complete. The decision can be accepted, conditionally accepted, or rejected.
