Research Globalisation Studies Groningen (GSG) About GSG

Staff

GSG has a small core staff, a Board of Governors and stakeholders in the university community. GSG hosts the CEASG (Centre for East Asian Studies Groningen) and maintains strong ties with other institutes and programmes and their staff, such as SEA ASEAN (Groningen Research Centre for Southeast Asia and ASEAN), the European NOHA Masters Programme, and the European Office of Osaka University. Organisationally GSG is positioned in the Faculty of Arts, and situated in one corridor of the Harmonie Building. Most of GSG staff works part-time in other institutes or faculties of the University of Groningen.

Prof. dr. Tjalling Halbertsma

Prof. dr. Tjalling Halbertsma is Director of Globalisation Studies Groningen (a.i.) and is professor in East Asian Studies with a special focus on Mongolia. He is furthermore the Director of the Centre for East Asian Studies Groningen (CEASG).

Dr. Josje van der Linden

Dr. Josje van der Linden holds the UNESCO Chair on Lifelong Learning, Youth and Work at Gulu University in Uganda. She coordinates the international network: Youth, Education, Work (YEW) at GSG

Drs. Ingrid Sennema

Drs. Ingrid Sennema is coordinator of the minor Development Studies.

Dr. Pieter Boele van Hensbroek

Dr. Pieter Boele van Hensbroek was Research Coordinator at GSG; he also had a part-time appointment in the Faculty of Philosophy.

Prof. dr. Jacques Zeelen

Prof. dr. Jacques Zeelen holds the chair of Lifelong Learning and Social Intervention in the Context of Globalisation. At the same time he holds the UNESCO Chair on Lifelong Learning, Youth and Work at Gulu University in Uganda. He coordinates the international network: Youth, Education, Work (YEW).

Prof. Max van den Berg

Prof. Max van den Berg holds the chair of Global Governance and Sustainable Livelihood at GSG, linking him to the studieprogramma’s International Relations and International Organisations, to the programme International Humanitarian Action, and the Centre for International Relations Research.

Dr. Sunkung Choi

Dr. Sunkung Choi is Assistant Professor at the Faculty of Economics and Business.

Dr. Yongjun Zhao

Dr. Yongjun Zhao is Head of China Affairs.

Prof. dr. Ron Holzhacker

Prof. dr. Ron Holzhacker is Scientific Director of the Groningen Research Centre for Southeast Asia and ASEAN (SEA-ASEAN).

Dr. Tim Wittig

Dr. Tim Wittig is a Senior Research Fellow at Globalisation Studies Groningen (GSG). He is also director of the Center for Security and Sustainability and Adjunct Professor at George C. Marshall European Center for Security Studies.

Dr. Chris Lamont

Dr. Chris Lamont is Head of Japan Affairs.
