100 years Genetics in Groningen
Celebration of 100 years Genetics in Groningen
Date: Friday, November 29, 2019
Location: Bernoulliborg, room 5161.0151

On 20 September 1919, Jantine (Tine) Tammes was appointed extraordinary professor of variability and inheritance. She was the first person in The Netherlands to occupy a chair in genetics, and only the second female professor.
Tammes conducted genetic research into botany with flax, an important crop at the time in Groningen.

Since then, Groningen has had and still has a thriving genetics community.
We will celebrate 100 years of genetics research and education in Groningen with a one-day symposium at the Zernike Campus, illustrating past, present and future endeavors in genetics.
