Huge loss for the DSSC: Marco Wiering

14 September 2021

We are saddened to announce the tragic passing of one of our longest-serving and most committed members: Prof. Marco Wiering (Bernoulli Institute).

Marco was an internationally well-known and respected AI scientist in machine learning, and a passionate and excellent teacher. He joined the Artificial Intelligence and Cognitive Engineering Institute (now part of the Bernoulli Institute) in 2007 and the DSSC in 2015. His areas of expertise included machine learning, Reinforcement Learning, Machine Learning, Deep Learning, Object Recognition, Text Learning, Evolutionary Computation, Robotics, Game Playing, Multi-agent Systems, Time-series Analysis.

At the DSSC he was involved in several projects in our themes. He selflessly volunteered for numerous of our activities and acted as a thoughtful judge on our internal competitions.

He will be greatly missed.
