Explore Groningen
Groningen city centre is a blend of history and charm, making it a beautiful place to explore on foot. Its narrow, cobbled streets are lined with centuries-old buildings, each with unique architectural details that reflect the city's rich past.
Hidden courtyards, known as "hofjes", offer peaceful escapes amid the bustling city, adding to its allure. The vibrant mix of historic churches, gabled houses, and quaint alleyways create a timeless atmosphere that invites leisurely walks and discovery.
Find some routes along the "hofjes" below:
An unmissable sight is the Academy building of the University of Groningen. The building was newly inaugurated in 1909 after a fire that destroyed the building entirely in 1906. It is a beautiful building where students still go to lectures and where all PhD defences are held.
Furthermore, the park Noorderplantsoen is where you can enjoy nature while being in the city and on the way you pass several special bridges of Groningen, such as De Kijk in 't Jatbrug.
