Vakis appointed as Associate Professor in Mechanics and Tribology of Engineering Systems
The Engineering and Technology institute Groningen (ENTEG) is happy to announce the appointment of Dr. Antonis I. Vakis as Associate Professor in the Mechanics and Tribology of Engineering Systems (MeTrES). Vakis’ expertise as a mechanical engineer lies in the development of multiscale static and dynamic models that capture the physical phenomena relevant in the prediction of complex engineering system behaviour, validated with experimental measurements. Building on his two mature research lines – on multiscale contact imechanics and tribology (including fundamental investigations of nanotribology), as well as renewable energy (the Ocean Grazer project ) – , Vakis is actively expanding his research area by focusing on advanced manufacturing processes.

Antonis Vakis earned his PhD degree from the Department of Mechanical Science and Engineering of the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in December 2011, working on nanoscale interface mechanics with application to magnetic storage. In 2013 he moved to the University of Groningen, where he has been working within the Advanced Production Engineering research unit of ENTEG.
