About

The Centre for East Asian Studies Groningen (CEASG) is an inter-faculty institute launched by the Faculty of Arts.

CEASG initiates and supports interdisciplinary teaching and research on contemporary China, Japan, Korea and Mongolia, and aims to strengthen and broaden the University’s academic partnerships in East Asia. Where appropriate, special attention is given to the three research priorities of the University of Groningen: Healthy Ageing, Energy, and Sustainable Society.

Affiliated faculties include the Faculty for Economics and Business, Faculty of Law, Faculty of Religion, Culture and Society, and the Faculty of Arts.

CEASG partners with various institutes and organizations in Groningen, including the Groningen Confucius Institute, the Centre for Japan Studies, Groningen Centre for Education and Research Osaka University, and the Ubbo Emmius Fund.

Through its academic staff, the Centre also partners with the European Studies Centre at Tsinghua University (Beijing), the Dutch Studies Centre at Osaka University (Osaka) and the Dutch Studies Centre at Fudan University (Shanghai).

The Centre coordinates the master’s track East Asian Studies on the political economy of contemporary East Asia (MA IRIO, 60 ECTS).

The Centre further initiates and facilitates grant applications regarding Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Mongolian and East Asian studies. In addition, CEASG facilitates lectures, seminars and conferences on contemporary East Asia at the University of Groningen.
