18 June 2013: Caves and Collections
2nd Groningen - Leuven encounter on the Dead Sea Scrolls
On June 18th 2013, the second meeting of the Groningen – Leuven network of the Dead Sea Scrolls took place in Groningen, the Netherlands.
These meetings are intended in the first place as informal gatherings. Our main aim is to foster scholarly collaboration, and to discuss recent developments in the field. The meetings are intended for both experienced and beginning scholars, but we also welcome graduate students working on the Scrolls or related literature.
The theme of this meeting was titled “caves and collections” by which the aim was at deepening our understanding of the classification addressed in our successful pioneering meeting of 2012. The programme contained an introductory lecture by Mladen Popović, which was followed by a workshop that allowed the participants to engage more closely with various questions that the collection preserved in the 11 caves pose. After the lunch break two papers were presented by PhD candidates of the network Myles Schoonover and Bärry Hartog.
After the meeting the participants were cordially invited to follow the Groningen Faculty Research Colloquium lecture of Prof. Albert Baumgarten. “Eclecticism as a Method”
