Title: Clouds take care of Software Defined Smart Objects
Abstract:
Nowadays Things that are becoming even more Smart but with a “Light Smell” of Software Defined Pieces. The physical and "real world" detected by sensors in our mobile and smart devices can be represented through objects. Each thing is uniquely identified, exposes specific capability for sensing, processing or actuation, and is interconnected to other things and systems through the Internet (Internet of Things - IoT). In this context, information travels along heterogeneous systems and networks, leading to the movement of huge amounts of data (Big Data), which need to be annotated, stored, processed, integrated, and presented in a seamless, efficient and easily interpretable form. Through Cloud computing we are able to take care of many objects specifically in defining them, in colleting their data and trying to ensure security and privacy; capabilities necessary to speed up new systems that offer many benefits to both end users and business companies. In this domain the challenging questions are: what is the best marriage among clouds and IoTs and where all benefits and convenience for both?
Bio
Prof. Massimo Villari is Associate Professor in Computer Engineering at University of Messina (Italy). He is actively working as IT Security and Distributed Systems Analyst in Cloud Computing, virtualization and Storage. For the EU Projects “RESERVOIR” he leaded the IT security activities of the whole project. For the EU Project “VISION-CLOUD”, he covered the role of architectural designer for UniME. He is currently Scientific ICT Responsible as Academic Partner EU/Italian Cloud for Europe (C4E) project and in the EU Project frontierCities, the Accelerator of FIWARE on Smart Cities – Smart Mobility. frontierCities is considered from European Commission one of the Best Accelerator European Consortium in the area of Smart Cities dealing with FIWARE cloud Architecture. He is strongly involved in EU Future Internet initiatives, specifically Cloud Computing and Security in Distributed Systems. He is co-author of more of 120 scientific publications and patents in Cloud Computing (Cloud Federation), Distributed Systems, Wireless Network, Network Security, Cloud Security and Cloud and IoTs. He is currently General Chair of ISCC 2016, EAI-CN4IoT-2016, EAI-IISSC-2016, and EAI Endorsed Transactions on Smart Cities Editor in Chief. Since 2011 he is a Fellow of IARIA, recognized as a Cloud Computing Expert, and since 2011 he is also involved in the activities of the FIArch, the EU Working Group on Future Internet Architecture. In 2014 was recognized by an independent assessment (IEEE Cloud Computing Transaction, Issue April 2014) as one of World-Wide active scientific researchers, top 27 classification, in Cloud Computing Area.
