Regulations for PhD Thesis Summary Award 2011-2012

 

 

  1. The aim of the award is to promote the transfer of scientific knowledge within BCN to the general public.
  2. To achieve this the BCN Board has established a yearly award of € 200 for the summary that best achieves this goal.
  3. The award will be presented at the BCN New Year’s Meeting.
  4. Every PhD candidate can submit a summary once.
  5. The criteria to be eligible for this award are the following:
    1. Written in Dutch or English
    2. The maximum number of words is 1500
    3. The summary must be submitted before December 1, 2012 to d.h.koopmans@med.umcg.nl
    4. The dissertation defense must have taken place within the period September 2011 – September 2012
  6. The evaluation of the summaries submitted will be done by a committee consisting of two senior researchers and one PhD student, all working within BCN.
  7. The most important evaluation criterion is to what extent the summary succeeds in conveying the most important findings and implications of the thesis in lay terms.

The BCN board intends to publish the summaries into a small booklet for promotional purposes. Submission of a summary implies agreement with publication in this manner.
