Costs for internal courses
Courses of the BCN PhD Training Program and GSMS courses are available free of charge for all BCN PhD candidates.
Costs for external courses

There is a budget for courses outside the GSMS of € 600 per calendar year available for BCN PhD candidates.

Courses include: External scientific (master level or higher) courses, workshops, summer and winter schools, master classes, career development courses.

BCN generally covers the costs for participation in the course, travel and accommodation. The costs for books, food and drinks (except for breakfast at the hotel and conference diners) will not be reimbursed by BCN.

Use the application form “Application form financial support External Courses”. Please check the conditions on the form! Add all the proofs of your course and payment!
Conference travel costs

A budget of € 600 per calendar year is available for international conferences, to cover (a part of) the costs.

The costs for food and drinks (except for breakfast at the hotel and conference dinners) will not be reimbursed by BCN.

Use the application form “Application form financial support Conference”. Please check the conditions on the form! Add all the proofs of your conference and payment!
Note: for all applications: Reimbursement by BCN is done according to the UMCG Business Travel Policy, which encourages sustainable travel whenever possible. This means that as of the first of September 2026: if travelling by public transport takes less than 6 hours or the travel distance is less than 700 km, choose train travel to help reduce CO₂ emissions; and public transport or electric vehicles should be chosen where reasonably possible, instead of a fossil fuel-powered private car.
Please send your reimbursement documents, the reimbursement form + photos/scans of invoices and proof of payment in one pdf file (1st page being the reimbursements form) to: d.h.koopmans umcg.nl Please send them within 3 months after the visit. Incomplete forms will delay the reimbursement.
