12. Research Data Management Awareness Workshop

NB. Obligatory for PhD students with an appointment at the UMCG, who started their project on January 1, 2017 or later. To be taken preferably right after the start of the PhD project.

Aim

The goal of this workshop is to create awareness about research data and good data management. It will give an introduction to the meaning and importance of research data management.  Moreover, it will outline the importance of a data management plan, how to make one and where you can get help.

The workshop will consist of two parts. In the first part, the theory and principles on research data management will be discussed. During the second part of the workshop, the four steps in the UMCG data management plan will be discussed. You will be asked to think of and provide possible answers and solutions for each step. This will give insight into the types of answers that can be used in each step of the data management plan.

Please note that it is not a technical course on how to store data or use the existing database infrastructure. Instead, it is meant to alert you to the steps you need to take to come to a good data management plan and help you on your way.
