Vision

The Arctic Centre is an interdisciplinary research and education centre, which:

  • contributes to a better comprehension of the Polar Regions, of changes in those regions and of the consequences of those changes for humanity and nature through international disciplinary and interdisciplinary;
  • is connected through the central research theme of 'past, present and future human-nature-relationships in changing polar environments';
  • converts polar research and knowledge into inspiring education relevant to several study disciplines, in which students are given the opportunity to develop knowledge and skills and are stimulated to think about human-nature relationships and the role of science in solving social problems;
  • has a firm position in:
    • providing advice to policymakers regarding both Polar Regions, taking an independent position.
    • strengthening collaboration with other researchers within and outside the University of Groningen;
    • sharing knowledge with the wider society, including children and young adults;
    • guarantees a safe and inclusive working environment, where people can enjoy their work.
