The Groningen Centre for European Financial Services has been awarded funding by the Board of the University of Groningen for the project 'Towards Sustainable Financial Practices'. The project aims to contribute to the development of the financial institutions' practices that are not only driven by commercial interests but also by the interests of individual consumers and societies at large. The need for sustainable financial practices in this sense has been highlighted by the recent global financial crisis.
The main research themes to be explored from a legal-comparative and inter-disciplinary perspectives include:
- improving financial services and protections for consumers and SMEs;
- enhancing the quality of management and culture in financial institutions;
- ensuring an optimal interplay between rule-making and enforcement in the financial sector in a multi-level EU governance system.
