Dr María Lorena Flórez Rojas launches second phase of interactive game
Assistant Professor of Technology Law María Lorena Flórez Rojas has recently launched the second phase of the interactive game "You Are Hired". She did so together with PhD students Sophia Salziger and Anna Helena Marquez Daly. The game provides students with a hand-on legal and tech learning experience.
Political advertisements on digital platforms
As part of the LL.M. programme in Technology Law and Innovation, students took on their second experiential challenge, diving deep into the legal and regulatory complexities of political advertising on digital platforms. Hosted by the Autoriteit Persoonsgegevens (Dutch Data Protection Authority), the challenge cantered around the intersection of data protection, algorithmic transparency, and electoral integrity in an increasingly digital political landscape.
The role of various regulations
Students were tasked with analysing how Online Political Microtargeting (OPMT) and Targeted Political Advertising (TPA) raise legal concerns—particularly when powered by AI-driven profiling, inferred data, and algorithmic amplification. Through extensive research, they assessed the role of the GDPR, DSA, TTPA, and AI Act, and developed concrete policy recommendations for enforcement strategies and inter-agency cooperation.
Experiential learning
This collaboration exemplifies commitment to integrating experiential learning into our curriculum. Students not only built a solid understanding of regulatory tools and data governance frameworks but also gained real-world experience simulating the role of legal advisors and policy consultants in a multi-stakeholder setting. Special thanks to Dr Carolin Kaiser from the Dutch DPA for generously hosting the group and engaging in meaningful dialogue with the students.
