Prof. Michel Vols appointed scientific member Royal Holland Society of Sciences and Humanities
Michel Vols, professor of public order law at our faculty, has been appointed scientific member of the Royal Holland Society of Sciences (KHMW). There he will contribute to science promotion with the other society and scientific members for an indefinite period.
Scholarly Society
The KHMW was founded in 1752, making it the oldest “Scholarly Society” in the Netherlands. Ever since its founding, its goal has been to “promote science in the broadest sense”. Today, the organization consists of about 550 scientific members (which includes Vols) and 400 societal members. The organization also has about 40 international members.
Within the KHMW, exchange of ideas takes place through lectures and informal interactions. Lectures by KHMW members and invited speakers are held annually during the Winter and Autumn Debates, and the Haarlem Presentation during the General Assembly in May.
Award ceremonies
Traditionally, prizes have been the core activity of the KHMW. The organization appoints independent judges to evaluate scientific achievements. Prizes and stipends are awarded at all levels, from high school students through master's students and doctoral students to renowned scientists. Approximately 140 award ceremonies take place annually at the KWHM.
