Adriaan Wierenga, LL.M., appointed member of TOOI Advisory Committee and disciplinary judge for KNVB

Adriaan Wierenga (LL.M.), emergency law specialist and researcher at our faculty, has been appointed for a four-year term to the Advisory Committee for the Public Order Intelligence Team (TOOI) of the East Netherlands police unit by institutional decision dated 14 May 2025. In addition, he has been appointed as a disciplinary judge for the Royal Dutch Football Association (KNVB).
Public Order Intelligence Team
The TOOI seeks information about movements and activities of (groups of) individuals who may cause serious public disorder.
The Advisory Committee that Wierenga is joining is chaired by Henri Lenferink, former mayor of Leiden and former King's Commissioner for the province of Gelderland. The East Netherlands police unit is the largest police unit in the Netherlands, with the most inhabitants, the most municipalities, and more than 7,000 police officers.
Dutch Football Association
Wierenga has also been appointed disciplinary judge of the Royal Dutch Football Association (KNVB). On the recommendation of the KNVB Board, he was appointed to this position by the Amateur Football Members' Council on 15 June 2025, for a period of three years.
The KNVB is a sports association with over a million members. Every week, an average of more than 14,000 soccer matches are played within this royal association. Wierenga and around 40 fellow disciplinary judges will rule on serious offenses and other misconduct in Dutch amateur soccer.
