Dr Lolke Braaksma wins Praemium Erasmianum Research Prize

Lolke Braaksma , assistant professor of environmental law at our Faculty, has won one of the five Research Prizes of the Praemium Erasmianum Foundation. He was awarded the prize for his PhD thesis The programmatic approach in environmental law: Towards a legal design in the European Union and the Netherlands that pursues sustainability . He successfully defended his thesis on 20 April 2023; his promotors are prof. Kars de Graaf and prof. Hanna Tolsma.
Research Prizes
Since 1988, the Praemium Erasmianum Foundation awards annual Dissertation Prizes in the fields of Humanities, Social Science and Law. A maximum of five prizes of € 3,000 each are awarded to young academic researchers who have written a PhD dissertation of outstanding quality. You can find all winners of the Dissertation Prizes (2024) on Praemium Erasmianum’s website.
Universities nominate the dissertations from which to choose. This year there were 34 contenders. The Faculty of Law at the University of Groningen nominated Braaksma's dissertation on the transition to a sustainable society as a potential winner.
Award ceremony
This year's award ceremony of the Research Prize will take place at the Gertrudis Chapel in Utrecht, on Friday 14 June 2024 from 3 p.m. The ceremony is by invitation; interested parties can register by e-mailing to l.s.braaksma rug.nl.
