Faculty of Law students win National Moot Court Competition

Third-year LLB students Reet Varma, Helena Fee Rasch, and Dillon Fernandes, and second-year LLB student Lilly Goll recently won the ELSA National Moot Court Competition (NMCC) on European Union Competition Law . The team, which had previously won the local competition rounds in Groningen, received both the “Best Team” and “Best Written Submission” awards. Team member Reet Varma also won the award for “Best Speaker of the Competition”.

Within the competition, students engaged with a case concerning social media influencers from a Competition Law perspective, based on Articles 101 and 102 of the Treaty on the Functioning of the European Union. Upon receiving the casefile in January 2021, the team conducted extensive legal research for their written submission, which was submitted in mid-February. Preparations for the oral pleadings followed, where the team met virtually for numerous practice sessions. All their efforts paid off as they won the local rounds in mid-March against other participating teams from Groningen. The team then advanced to the National Rounds, where they competed (virtually) against other local round winners from throughout the Netherlands.
