Career prospects
(Image: A thorough understanding of legal standards regulating international commerce is a valuable knowledge base to have in many international work environments)
By creating a profound understanding of common law and civil law approaches to contracts and relevant international treaties, the International Commercial Law programme ensures that graduates should be able to navigate smoothly through international work environments after graduation. The programme more specifically provides its graduates with excellent opportunities to pursue various careers, for example:
-
A legal career within internationally operating law firms.
-
A commercial or legal career in internationally operating companies in trade, industry or services.
-
Starting an academic career by writing a PhD.
-
Government positions in the field of trade and economics that require understanding of commercial law.
Below you will see a distribution of the different arenas where past students are currently working. And here you can read about the career paths of our Faculty international graduates, for example a graduate of this programme who works as an Associate Lawyer, and another who pursued a PhD.
Further, all students have access to the university Careers Services Law which can help them in finding and preparing for internships and employment. If you are considering pursuing doctoral research after completing the LLM, Please have a look at the Groningen Centre for Law and Governance.
If you'd like to know more about the International Commercial Law LLM programme, you are welcome to join one of our Masters Week presentations for the programme. You can also watch a recording of our most recent (online) masters week presentation here.
