Short Biography Prof.Dr. Julija Kiršienė

Professor Julija Kiršienė is the Dean of the Faculty of Law at Vytautas Magnus University (in Lithuanian “VDU”) in Kaunas, Lithuania. She received her PhD in law at Mykolas Romeris University in Vilnius, Lithuania.Prior to becoming Dean, Professor Kiršienė also practiced law as an attorney in Kaunas, with a focus on property law.She is the author of numerous articles in Lithuanian, English and Russian, most of which reflect her research in contracts, torts, property law and legal education.Indeed, legal education has become a special area of her scientific research in recent years. Professor Kiršienė has given presentations on the impact of globalization to legal education, and she has spoke about the need for law schools to take a value-based approach to teaching legal ethics. This emphasis on comparative legal education also reflects her work as Dean, where she coordinates the Faculty of Law’s longstanding joint certificate program in transnational law with Michigan State University College of Law.
