Academy building will turn orange for Orange the World
On 25 November, on the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women, the Academy building will light up orange. This is part of the international Orange the World campaign, the United Nations campaign that is committed to fighting violence against women and girls. The aim of the campaign is to ask everyone to openly support the fight against violence.
Safe, anywhere, anytime
The 2023 campaign theme is 'Safe, Anywhere, Anytime'. With this theme, the campaign wants to raise awareness about the fact that violence does not only happen in the domestic sphere, but occurs everywhere in society. Think of harassment on the streets, within student unions, at festivals and in the workplace. The campaign calls on others to help when they see something
happening and thus be a supporter.
Activities
Not only the Academy Building will be coloured orange on 25 November. Other locations throughout the Netherlands will also light up orange to raise awareness about violence against women. From 24 November to 9 December, the Municipality of Groningen is organizing various activities with the aim of making violence against women discussable and providing tools to intervene when necessary. The entire program is on the municipality's website.
Where can you go?
Have you been a victim of violence, harassment or another unpleasant incident yourself? Or have you seen something that you think has gone too far? Then there is always a place to turn to at the UG.
