Rector Magnificus Cisca Wijmenga receives 2022 Galjaard Award
On 21 April, Prof. Cisca Wijmenga will receive the 2022 Galjaard Award from the Dutch Society for Human Genetics (NVHG). Once every two years, the NVHG board selects the winner of the Galjaard Award, who is then presented with the award during an award ceremony at the annual NVHG conference. As part of the ceremony, the award-winner holds a lecture providing their perspective on the field of medical genetics.
The Galjaard Award is a prestigious life-time achievement award to honour scientists who have successfully brought the topic of genetics to the attention of the general public and/or who have played a pivotal role in the field of medical genetics in the Netherlands. The award is named after Prof. Hans Galjaard (born in 1935), one of the most decorated geneticists of the Netherlands, who is well-known for his interviews on radio and television as well as for his world-renowned pioneering work in the field of medical genetics, and prenatal diagnostics in particular.
