Zpannend Zernike Limited: get on your bike on 3 October for a tour of science and technology
Different from previous years but still surprising, fun, healthy, and for the whole family: join Groningen’s take on this year’s national weekend of science, organized by the University of Groningen (UG) and Hanze University of Applied Sciences (Hanze UAS). Participation is free, and you can register via the website www.zpannendzernike.nl. The printed cycle route, which also acts as the ticket to participating institutions on the route, will be handed out to everybody at the start location.
Two start locations
Participants can start either at the Harmonieplein (Groningen city centre) or at the Nadorstplein (Zernike Campus), at any moment between 11 a.m. and 2.30 p.m. Near the Harmonieplein start location, the Academy Building and University Museum will be open to visit. Almost back in the city centre? You might want to check out DOT on your way.
The route from the city centre to Zernike Campus, around 12 kilometres, does not only pass by well-known spots such as the Hanze UAS, Bernouilliborg, and EnTranCe buildings, but also involves all sorts of puzzle tasks. Which historical figures will you pass on the way? Can you find all of the scientific instruments and attributes on the route? At the Academieplein, you will get to know the mobile ‘Spraaklab’ (speech lab) of the Faculty of Arts. The new ‘Jouw Energie van Morgen’ (your energy for tomorrow) truck will, of course, be parked at Zernike Campus. And at EnTranCe, you can check out the hydrogen cargo bike. EnTranCe will also be hosting the Young Researchers (De Jonge Onderzoekers, DJO) and ERIBA (the European Research Institute for the Biology of Ageing).
Are you all puzzled and cycled out? Then wait for a surprise, for curious children as well as their parents!
