Prof. Ben Feringa Foreign Member of the Royal Society
Prof. dr. Ben Feringa has been elected as 'Foreign Member' of the Royal Society. Feringa, Professor of Organic Chemistry and 2016 Nobel Prize winner in Chemistry, has specifically been elected “in recognition of his work in molecular nanoscience and his discovery of the light-driven rotary molecular motor which made the first moving ‘nanocar’ and more complex nanomachines a reality”.
This year’s 51 new Fellows, 10 Foreign Members and one Honorary Fellow have been selected for their outstanding contributions to scientific understanding.
The Royal Society is a Fellowship of many of the world's most eminent scientists and is the oldest scientific academy in continuous existence. There are approximately 1,700 Fellows and Foreign Members, including around 70 Nobel Laureates Past Fellows and Foreign Members of the Royal Society have included the Dutch Christiaan Huygens en Antoni van Leeuwenhoek, and Isaac Newton, Charles Darwin, Albert Einstein, Dorothy Hodgkin and Stephen Hawking.
