This year, the Aletta Jacobs Award will be granted to Ms. Khadija Arib. The University of Groningen grants this award once every two years to an academically-educated woman who makes a case for women’s rights and emancipation, both nationally and internationally.
Ms. Arib is the current speaker of the Dutch House of Representatives. She is also one of the founders and former chairwoman of the MVVN, the association for Dutch women of Moroccan descent. She has been granted this award for her important contribution to the position of Moroccan women in the Netherlands, as well as her inspiring role as the first female speaker of the House with a migratory background.
On the evening of Thursday the 5th of March, the evening before the official ceremony, the UG Honours College Master Programme organizes a College Tour event in Ms. Arib’s honour, styled after the Dutch Honours College TV-show. During this event, you’ll be granted the opportunity to meet Ms. Arib and ask her about her life, career and accomplishments. Are you interested in Dutch politics, women’s rights and emancipation, or the life and career of Khadija Arib? Make sure to Reserve your spot at the HC College Tour! There’s 300 spots available, so make sure to sign up as soon as possible!
Do you have a question you’ve always wanted to ask Ms. Arib? Feel free to fill in the last field of the form and you might get the chance to ask it!
