Dutch Higher Education Guide 2019: UG-programmes strong at the top
Ten University of Groningen (UG) Bachelor’s degree programmes have been awarded the ‘Top Degree Programme’ title in this year’s Dutch Higher Education Guide (Keuzegids), placing them at the top of Dutch academic education. In the ‘Broad-based General Universities 2019’ category, the university of the north switched places with Radboud University.
The 2019 Keuzegids has awarded the Top Degree Programme label to programmes that earned a total score of at least 76 points. Ten of the 69 national degree programmes that were awarded this label are UG programmes, just like in 2018. The best UG Bachelor’s programme is Archaeology, with a total score of 92 points. The other nine top UG Bachelor’s degree programmes according to this threshold are: Theology (88), Religious Studies (86), Minorities & Multilingualism (84), Philosophy (80), Liberal Arts and Sciences (80), English Language and Culture (78), Astronomy (78), Applied Physics (78) and Philosophy of a Specific Scientific Discipline (76).
Eight UG programmes ‘best in category’
A degree programme can also be the best in its category without achieving the Top Degree Programme label. Alongside the top 10 degree programmes, another eight UG Bachelor’s degree programmes are at the top of their respective category. These are: Artificial Intelligence, Human Movement Sciences, Human Geography and Urban and Regional Planning, Information Science, Media Studies, Pedagogical Sciences, Pharmacy, and Law (the degree programme in Leeuwarden).
In total, 49 UG Bachelor’s degree programmes were assessed, giving the UG the second highest number of degree programmes in all 14 Dutch universities. There is a separate Keuzegids for Master’s degree programmes.
About the Keuzegids
The Dutch Higher Education Guide is published annually by the Centre for Higher Education Information (Centrum Hoger Onderwijs Informatie, CHOI) and is intended for secondary school pupils and deans who want to find out more about university Bachelor’s degree programmes. The assessments in the Keuzegids are based on student evaluations (National Student Survey 2018), data from the national degree programme database Studiekeuze123, and NVAO visitation reports.
