UG and CBS start Academic Data Center

On Tuesday 11 July, the President of the Board of the University of Groningen (UG) Sibrand Poppema and Tjark Tjin-A-Tsoi, Director General of Statistics Netherlands (CBS), will sign an agreement for the start of the first Academic Data Center. The Center will be hosted by the University of Groningen Center for Information Technology (CIT).
At the CBS Academic Data Center, CBS staff and UG researchers will work together closely to enable a more effective use of CBS data for academic research.

                     Mini symposium

The agreement will be signed during a mini symposium on the added value of collaboration between the UG and CBS. During this symposium, the results of a ‘data challenge’ will be presented, in which CBS staff and UG researchers will work on five use cases together. They will, for example, investigate how microdata from CBS can help gain more insight into the career paths of alumni, study how a ‘living lab’ can be designed in collaboration with CBS and the municipality of Groningen, and look into ways to use CBS microdata more effectively and efficiently in research on teaching.
