Happy and Healthy! Histories of Healthy Ageing
Healthy living is popular. We go to the gym, are aware of what we eat and bookshops are full of books about mindfulness and other ways of becoming happy. But is this a new trend? The exhibition ‘Happy and Healthy! Histories of Healthy Ageing’ reveals that the desire to grow old as healthily as possible is as old as the hills. The exhibition runs from 22 June 2017 in the University Museum Groningen.
Happy and Healthy! shows that the key ingredients for a healthy lifestyle are in fact the same as the six lifestyle and environmental factors that were important in the medical world before 1800: climate, diet, physical exercise, sleeping pattern, detox and emotional balance. Doctors were continually busy writing life rules based on these factors. The exhibition challenges visitors to think about the meaning of these old ideas for our current desire to have a healthy and happy life.
The exhibition runs from 22 June 2017 to 31 January 2018 in the University Museum Groningen.
