NWO awarded a total of sixteen TOP grants to scientists in the fields of astronomy, computer science and mathematics, or a combination of these disciplines. Seven scientists are senior researchers with a proven track record, while the other nine are junior researchers at the beginning of their academic careers. The scientists will receive total funding of € 6 million. The grants are intended for innovative, ground-breaking, high-risk research, which does not focus on a specific subject.
Prof. T.A. Oosterloo (ASTRON) has been awarded a grant from Compartment 1, intended for senior researchers with a proven track record of significant research results over the last 10 years. The research proposal that has been honoured is entitled ‘The Hunt for the Darkest Galaxies’. A total of € 4 million has been divided over seven projects in Compartment 1.
Dr K.I. Caputi , Rosalind Franklin Fellow at the University of Groningen, has been awarded a grant from Compartment 2, intended for junior researchers at the beginning of their academic careers.
